چکیده

Granit and Helme (1) found that the electroretinogram (ERG) of the darkadapted frog's eye was effected by a constant electric current running across the retina (polarizing current). They reported that both band d-waves of ERG were enhanced by the current flowing through the retina from the outside into the inside of the bulb (this direction of the current was called "inside cathode"), but they were diminished by the current of the opposite direction (this direction was called "outside cathode"). The recent contributions to this problem were made by Toida, Goto and Kuriyama (2), Bnoit and Cornu (3), Cornu and Gonella (4) and Blindley (5); all of their works consisted in measurement of ERG taken from frog's eye. Recently, by means of a technique involving an electrode fixed to a contact lens, it has become possible to record easily electrical responses originating in the human retina itself. An attempt, therefore, was made by us (6) to compare the results which were obtained from frog's eye by the above mentioned in vestigators with those obtained from the human eye. At the same time, we have made some studies on the phenomena reported by Kravkov and Galochkina (7). We examined, using an adaptometer, the variation in visual sensitivity (reciprocal of light threshold) due to the polarization of the eye as before. Hence, the present experiments afford an opportunity of comparing between both effects of polarization on the ERG and visual sensitivity, that is, a com of electrophysiological and psychophysical methods for exploring the single visual problem. The experiments reported below will prove that these two very different tests show the results well consistent with each other.

Just Noticeable Difference Estimation Using Visual Saliency in Images

Due to some physiological and physical limitations in the brain and the eye, the human visual system (HVS) is unable to perceive some changes in the visual signal whose range is lower than a certain threshold so-called just-noticeable distortion (JND) threshold. Visual attention (VA) provides a mechanism for selection of particular aspects of a visual scene so as to reduce the computational loa...

Size-dependent on vibration and flexural sensitivity of atomic force microscope

In this paper, the free vibration behaviors and flexural sensitivity of atomic force microscope cantilevers with small-scale effects are investigated. To study the small-scale effects on natural frequencies and flexural sensitivity, the consistent couple stress theory is applied. In this theory, the couple stress is assumed skew-symmetric. Unlike the classical beam theory, the new model contain...

Effects of ionic parameters on behavior of a skeletal muscle fiber model

All living cells have a membrane which separates inside the cell from it's outside. There is a potential difference between inside and outside of the cell. This potential difference will change during an action potential. It is quite common to peruse action potentials of skeletal muscle fibers with the Hodgkin-Huxley model. Since Hodgkin and Huxley summarized some controlling currents like inwa...

Optimization of the Kinematic Sensitivity and the Greatest Continuous Circle in the Constant-orientation Workspace of Planar Parallel Mechanisms

This paper presents the results of a comprehensive study on the efficiency of planar parallel mechanisms, considering their kinetostatic performance and also, their workspace. This aim is approached upon proceeding single- and multi-objective optimization procedures. Kinetostatic performances of ten different planar parallel mechanisms are analyzed by resorting to a recent index, kinematic sens...

Sensitivity Analysis of Different Parameters Affecting Thermal Contact Conductance

In internal combustion engines, exhaust valve and its seat gain considerable temperature as the hot gases exit through them. So, the rate of heat transfer should be under control. In this study, the contact heat transfer coefficient has been estimated. An experimental study on an Air-Cooled internal combustion engine cylinder head has been considered. Using the measured temperatures of sensors ...
